Introducing the Gucci Blondie Bag
The Gucci Blondie, which first debuted within the Love Parade fashion
show in Los Angeles. This temporal resilience is reflective of an
essence that is both chameleonic and charismatic, a combination that
allows the line, like many others of the House, to remain contemporary,
no matter the year. The debut Gucci Blondie bags, crafted from the label’s signature suede
and adorned with the new emblem, evoked the free-spirited essence of
the ’70s. This same sense of effortless sophistication is reflected in
De Sarno’s iterations, which were breezily slung over the shoulder and
elegantly hand-carried by the strap on the runway at Tate’s Tanks space.
More often than not, labels find themselves reimagining their brand so many times over that they eventually lose sight of their identity. But then, there are the fashion houses so steadfast in the DNA of their label that their identity becomes impenetrable — something which Gucci has upheld since its inception in 1921.
Fifty years later, Gucci created an archival line of Gucci handbags that championed their signature interlocking G emblem. The lineage became so iconic that their design is still synonymous with the Italian fashion house today. How it managed to sustain its supremacy, you may wonder? For Gucci, the answer is simple: by embracing an ever-evolving narrative.
And, continuing this in 2022, Gucci have announced their latest line, the Gucci Blondie. Drawing inspiration from the patent documents of the 1971 design, the Gucci Blondie once again has its G emblem taking centre stage, while new and original details catapult the accessory into the modern day — breathing a new strain of identity to the pieces.
Expertly curated to fit one’s everyday life and needs, the Gucci Blondie can take you from morning to noon to night. The bag comes as a messenger bag with thick cross-body strap, a handbag with chain shoulder strap and as a mini bag.
All styles currently come in fabrics like suede, leather and classic GG monogram canvas. Fastened by a magnetic closure flap, inside, you’ll find a main compartment (sometimes 2 depending on the size) and one zip pocket. The messenger bag measures approximately 12″ x 9″ x 3″ while the shoulder bag and minibag come in at 11″ x 7″ x 2″ and 9″ x 5″ x 2″ respectively.
A miniature version, also featuring interchangeable and adjustable leather and Web straps, rounds out the selection. Designs are available in leather, suede, and GG canvas, with a varied palette for both the bags and the Web straps.
In terms of price, the Gucci Blondie is currently available online on the brand’s website for $3,890 USD for the messenger bag size, $3,500 USD for the shoulder bag size and $2,900 USD for the minibag size.
In an ode to the throwback vibes the Blondie exudes, the brand features the bag prominently in a campaign set in New York City, complete with old school stretch Cadillacs and the yellow taxicabs synonymous with the Big Apple.
