The History of the Gucci Aphrodite Bag

The History of the Gucci Aphrodite Bag
By Ggbags 1 years ago 338 Views No comments

Making its debut for the brand’s Cruise 2023 collection, the Gucci Aphrodite bag is one of the House’s new fan favorites. An elegant and easy silhouette, the Aphrodite fuses together iconic elements from Gucci’s past and the modernity of the House’s present. It’s this sentiment that was integral to Alessandro Michele’s time at Gucci, and while his reign has ended, his influence will forever remain. The Aphrodite, one of his last debuts for the House, is like owning a piece of Gucci history.

Inspired by the Past

Instantly recognizable as Alessandro Michele’s Gucci, thanks to the bag’s bold double G logo, it’s this emblem that fuses Gucci’s past and present all at once. Inspired by an iconic House code that was originally introduced in the 1970s, it was Michele who brought this motif back with the brand’s fall/winter 2016 collection. It has since become an integral part of the Gucci we know under Alessandro Michele’s direction. With his sudden departure, fans of today’s Gucci will want to get their hands on some of his iconic designs, and the Aphrodite is the latest of them.

The details

The bag itself is fairly simple – a crescent-shaped silhouette with a strap that can be adjusted; its lines are clean and curved. While many of Gucci handags feature intricate details, cool shapes, and bold embellishments, the Aphrodite is more understated. Understated but still inherently Gucci, the Aphrodite is defined by its gold GG detailing, fundamental to Michele’s time at the House, inspired by an important House code from the 1970s.

The bag is simple but beautiful, both to the eye and touch – crafted from soft leather with a grained texture that picks up color well. Speaking of color, it’s the latest hue of the Aphrodite that has us revisiting this bag. For Pre-Fall 2023, Gucci continues to blend that same archival influence with modern functionality to create a contemporary narrative, and the Aphrodite Bag is just that.

The sizes

The Aphrodite bag comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. We’ve put together a table so you can compare the dimensions side by side.

Small size: 9.9 x 7.5 x 2.8 inches
Medium size: 15.3 x 15 x 0.8 inches
Large size: 18.5 x 17 x 1.1 inches

Even though she just came out a few months ago, we’re confident that Aphrodite is going to become an instant classic for Gucci. In particular, we appreciate Aphrodite’s unique shape, versatile strap options, and roominess. For these reasons and more, we’re confident that this bag will work just as well for a brunch date as it does for the boardroom. When it comes to sizes, we recommend going with the small or medium. We like the small because it fits into the current Y2K mini-bag trend while still being large enough to fit all of your daily essentials. Meanwhile, the medium is a solid everyday bag that can accommodate work items, diapers, or anything else you have to take with you. The large is definitely roomy, but it seems too large for most people’s frames. Plus, if you were to fill it to capacity, it would get pretty heavy.
